Branding can be a very simple but effective addition if for no other reason that if one of your items is purchased then by branding that item others that may happen across the item will know where to find you to purchase one of their own. There are a few methods that can be used to showcase your business and how to contact you. I use a mixture of all of the below methods for both my own crafting business and my craft shop.
Business Cards
The first and most simple method is to have a business card. It is amazing how many situations can arise where people would ask for a business card even in everyday conversation. Many people have asked what I do for a living which has then lead to handing out a business card. Business cards are an easy way of handing out a direct link to your business that potential customers can revisit later at a more convenient time. A business card also provides a customer with all the possible shopping options for your items, as some customers prefer to shop through a Facebook page or website rather than in person.
Business Stamp
If you make non fabric or wool items the simplest way to make customers remember where they got your item from is to stamp the back or underneath with your name and/or logo. This is also a really cheap but effective method of personalising your packaging or bags. I had a stamp made up for the shop and I stamp my paper bags myself which is a really cheap way of personalising the bags. There are many options for having a stamp made and many of the companies that provide this service will often design the stamp and sometimes a logo for you. These are the plain bags that I use in the shop which I then customise myself.
Sew in Business Labels
If you are a crafter in fabrics or wool items then there is nothing that would make your products look more professional than a sewn in label displaying your business name, contact details and washing instructions. This is a requirement if you are producing items that require CE Testing as the product codes and washing instructions have to be displayed to meet with EU regulations. However it is a very simple addition to any item that will really add a level of professionalism to your items. The washing instructions are helpful information to add to your labels as this information can ensure the best care for your items which will make them last after purchase.
Branding is a huge area of marketing and my very simple suggestions above are just the beginning. It expand into the colours of your business used online, in correspondence and packaging. Your choice of fonts, colours or logo design can also heavily influence Branding. I am in no way suggesting that my suggestions are the only way to brand, however they provide a simple and effective approach to get started.
Thank you for reading, please let me know if there are anymore branding suggestions that you use and find useful. Also drop me a line if there are any more guides you would like me to provide to guide you in your crafting business.
