I’m not going to lie at first I found my silhouette portrait cutting machine very time consuming and difficult to navigate. However as time went on I found that there were many features available that I was unaware of. Once these features had been discovered the true capabilities were revealed. Below I will give you my Silhouette Portrait Review and what features are key to making the best use of the cutting machine.
Creating designs
The most time consuming of tasks that I undertook in the Design Studio were creating my own cuts from pictures or hand drawn designs. I was able to scan a paper cut design into the Design Studio however from then on I would painstakingly freehand draw around the object. It was quite by chance that I happened across a Pinterest post that outlined how to use the trace feature. This feature enables you to highlight an object and click Trace function that will create a cut design of the selected object. Of course some minor adjustments may need to be made to create the best outcome. The trace feature in Design Studio looks like a butterfly outline.
Script Font Transfer
Most commonly the items that I would cut on my portrait were words. Usually these words would be a script font. To begin with I would struggle to transfer this text as the letters would be individual and would separate during transfer. Once text has been input right click on the text and select weld on the drop down menu. This will join any cursive text to the previous and following character. This makes the transfer of larger script phrases much easier.
In conclusion, I find the Silhouette portrait a fantastic piece of equipment that really helps me produce my products. It does have quite a steep learning curve for working out how to use it to the best of it’s ability but it is definitely worth it. Let me know if there are any more features that you use on a regular basis that you find helpful.
