I absolutely love my Portrait Silhouette machine and I will use it whenever given the opportunity.  With the new year approaching many of us will be thinking about how to sort out and organise our homes.  Partner this idea with the Silhouette machine and you will have a beautifully tidy and organised home.  I have listed below just a few of the ideas that I have used my machine in my home.

Kitchen container labels

The first and most obvious of all the labelling ideas with a silhouette machine is in the kitchen.  You can have a photogenic parlour if you get matching containers for all your baking essentials.  Many people choose to use glass containers for flour, rice or pasta.  Then they use a beautiful script font to create stylish labels that can be used to differentiate between the contents.

A simple sticky back vinyl can be used to create a stick on label for your container, most commonly made in either black or white.  However you could also create a vinyl template that you can use to apply etching paste.  This will give a subtle frosted label to your glass containers.  The aesthetics of this labelling is really limitless so you are able to pick a solution that will fit with your décor.

Organise the children

I have two sons and they constantly argue and nothing makes them argue more than if the other one has used something of theirs.  Here is where yet again the Silhouette came to my rescue.

Especially for school supplies I find that I can quickly run up a page of labels that will clearly identify which water bottle or book bag belongs to who.  On the majority of the school items I use a heat transfer vinyl that I can seal on to prevent little fingers picking it off quite so quickly.

I tend to use a rounded clear font on their labels for school items.  When their book bag is thrown in amongst all the others in their class it will be a lot quicker and easier for them to identify their book bag out.  In addition if you have a younger school child they will find it easier to identify and recognise their own name if the font is clear.

Bathroom bottles

If you have heard of the Hinch cleaning revolution you have probably already seen the labelled bathroom bottles.

There are number of reasons that I introduced this into my bathroom at home.  First of all it gives a uniform appearance to all of the lotions and potions you have lined up around the bath.  This immediately give a clean and tidy appearance.  In addition I love that these bottles limit the children.  With a pump bottle the children will only use a small amount of shower gel or shampoo for example.  Previously they would squeeze an enormous amount of the product into their hands and so much would be wasted.

Personally for bathroom bottles I use a basic sticky back vinyl.  You are not likely to be washing these bottles to the same extent as the kitchen containers so this vinyl is likely to be adequate.

Tool board

Ever gone up the shed to look for something and you have no idea where the hammer or spanner is.  It is possible to be able to know exactly where something is and exactly where to put it back when you have finished with it.  Check out this post to see how amazing a tool peg board can be https://www.lifestorage.com/blog/organization/diy-garage-pegboard/

A bit of reorganising will be required to get started.  I have always admired a beautifully presented peg board.  This idea can be used to organised all sorts from tools, craft supplies or even toys.  Install on the wall a large peg board with clips and hooks that can easily hold your array of tools.  Once you have measured everything out then you can start on the fun labels.

On your silhouette design some vinyl shapes that mimic the shape of the tool that you intend to hang in a particular location.  Place the vinyl shape behind the clip or hook.  Then hang the tool in front.  Next time you go up the shed you will be able to easily see at a glance where tools should be stored or if an item is missing.

This idea can be great for young children who can’t read.  They will be able to easily see at a glance at a picture what toys are to be placed where.  The idea can also be expanded to provide labels for tubs or buckets so children can tidy up.

Christmas tags

Under the tree at Christmas can be a very festive looking pile of parcels.  On Christmas morning my children love to sort out all of the presents into piles for each recipient.  Rather than just buy gift tags or writing on the gift your silhouette can introduce some lovely alternatives.

Use your silhouette with just some basic coloured card to cut out monograms or names out of a gift tag shape.  These will make it easier for identifying the recipient of the gift and will make your gifts look more personalised and special.

Personally I love a red gift wrap with a basic kraft card brown tag.  Sometimes the simpler the more elegant the appearance.

How do you use your Silhouette machine to organise your home?  The labelling possibilities are endless!
