When I’m not crafting
Let’s be honest I am nearly always crafting however very occasionally I manage to find some spare time to indulge in some of my other passions. I believe a bit of self care can really add to your productivity when crafting.
Reading
I don’t find nearly enough time to read as much as I would like. Recently I have tried to regiment my reading, I will read for half an hour before I go to sleep. Reading is a great way to escape for a period of time and not overthink. I read a variety of genres depending on what takes my fancy. I use Good Reads to help me keep track of what I have read and also for new book suggestions. You can create an account at https://www.goodreads.com/
Gardening is like crafting
My next biggest interest next to crafting is my garden. I could easily spend hours pottering around the garden, weeding and pruning. At the same time I get a lot of enjoyment out of just spending time in the garden and appreciating the natural shapes and colours of the plants. A lot of inspiration can be obtained for future crafting projects by observing the natural occurring colours and shapes of plants.
Weather permitting I also enjoy spending time crafting in the garden. Obviously I would only be able to undertake certain crafts in the garden, due to the restraints of necessary equipment. Knitting and crochet are my favourite garden crafts where a comfy seat is the only requirement. Just changing your surroundings whilst crafting can really have a noticeable effect on your productivity. Also sitting in the garden whilst working doesn’t make it seem like you are working at all.
Beach
One of my absolute favourite places is the beach, I am not particular about pebbled or sandy beaches. There is something so calming and reflective about being near the shore where you can clearly see the horizon and hear the movement of the water. By taking some time out and appreciating the outdoors you will feel more inspired and as a result you will become a lot more productive.
Crafting to relax
If you only feel that crafting is the best way for you to relax then you should try and find a craft that you can undertake with enjoyment. It is important that you are not thinking about the profitability of this item while you are doing it. Adult colouring or diamond painting are good options as you are unlikely to sell the finished product. Keep a look out for an upcoming blog post that lists the crafts I undertake to relax https://claireyatfairycrafters.com/crafts-to-relax/
As a crafter it is important not to work towards burnout. You will be much more productive and creative if you spend time on other interests or activities. You will also find that your crafts will benefit from some time concentrated elsewhere. Take time to do things that you enjoy and get enjoyment from. Make sure that you have a hobby or interest that can give you time away from your craft business as ultimately this will make you more productive.
What other hobbies or interests do you have that help you take time out to recuperate?
