Halloween can be so fun for children and using the spooky theme can be a great basis for crafts. I have collected together some of my favourite children’s spooky crafts for you to try out.
Paper cup face lanterns
If you are looking for an understated decorations that are quick to knock up these paper cup lanterns require only some battery tea lights, paper cups and a black marker pen. You are free to let your imagination run wild with facial expressions. Stef introduces this craft as the easiest craft over on her blog:
Paper Spider Webs
Very similar in their creation to the paper snowflakes we all used to make as children, these spider webs are basic but fun for little ones. Most of us will be able to find access to a piece of paper and a pair of scissors so will not require a shopping trip for craft supplies. Debbie explains how to make them over on her blog at:
Pom Pom Halloween Garland
A basic garland can really add to your décor and Pom Poms are really easy to make for hands of all ages. Set little ones to work making this fun garland to hang for Halloween. Camille over at Growing up Gabel has great instructions on how to create one of your very own.
Sock Pumpkins
These pumpkins can be made from old socks. They are very simple to make and will make a bit more of a grown up decoration for you home in the autumn season. This pattern is available from Elizabeth over at:
Lollipop Ghosts
Children love crafts but they also adore sweets. This craft manages to combine the two into a fun Halloween themed activity. As an added bonus once they are bored of making them they can then be kept quiet eating them. Heidi explains how simply they can be created over on her blog:

Vampire bookmark
If you are a bit of a bookworm, then you can get in the spirit of Halloween with one of these vampire bookmarks. They are simply made from a free printable and a few decorations. They then slip over the corner of your book and scare anyone away from losing your page. Have a look at the instructions over on Printables Fairy
Halloween themed slime
Slime is always a favourite with children of all ages. So it is a great idea to combine this love of slime with Halloween. You can get the full recipe and some ideas of what to add to your slime. You could add in googly eyes or small plastic bugs to give your slime a really gruesome appearance. The recipe can be seen over on Frogs and snails and puppy dog tail.
Pumpkin stress balls
Kids love a good stress reliever or fiddle toy. These pumpkin ones are a great addition to Halloween decorations that can also be played with. This idea could also be adapted to be ghosts by using a similar design but starting with a white balloon. They are really, really simple to make and even little hands will manage to help out. Have a look at the instructions over on little bins for little hands at https://littlebinsforlittlehands.com/halloween-calm-down-balls-for-kids/
Boo ghost bombs
These bombs are great fun for little ones and are really basic to make. Using just an empty egg shell the ingredients can be added inside to create these fun bombs. The full instructions and ingredients can be found over on Growing a jeweled rose at

Spooky planters
There is something quite satisfying about recycling and keeping the children amused at the same time. These recycled bottle planters are a great example of one of these activities. Cutting the bottle in a standard shape, it can then become a new creation by each child decorating it in their own way. Have a look for some inspiration over at Hello wonderful
Halloween can be so much fun for children and it is a great theme to use as a background for keeping them occupied. Halloween doesn’t all need to be about sweets and these activities will amuse them for ages. Let me know if there are any other crafts that your family enjoy at Halloween.
